Working with a new product team at Stripe is a vice president of Meta’s virtual reality (VR) social network Horizon Worlds.
According to his LinkedIn article, Vivek Sharma joined Stripe this week as its new head of revenue and financial management. He is working with a new team to create technologies that will aid companies in managing, tracking, and analyzing their income.
Over the past ten years, online business strategies have shown tremendous innovation. Fintech and the creative economy are pervasive, and stores are evolving into markets and platforms, according to Sharma.
The financial systems, however, have not kept up. Businesses are nevertheless bound by the fundamentals, such as how to support new charging methods and/or bill consumers. How do we keep track of all the financial responsibilities and assets floating around in the cloud? And how can we accomplish this in global marketplaces while being compliant?
Vishal Shah succeeded Sharma after he resigned in August, according to a PYMNTS article at the time. Sharma was a member of the group that created the virtual environment in the metaverse that people could enter with Meta’s VR equipment.
His departure came in response to complaints over Horizon Worlds’ visuals when its CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled an in-world avatar of himself that was criticized for looking old and being of poor overall quality. The avatar had no legs.
Sharma leaves the issues of the metaverse behind at Stripe in favor of handling sales and financial management for companies in the conventional world.
In order to manage that revenue with the least amount of work, Sharma said, “We’re helping businesses generate more money in more ways and making accounting, tax, and analytics a ton easier.” This is crucial in the present recession.
Millions of businesses use Stripe, and he said, “Getting this right may be a significant generator of economic potential for enterprises throughout the world.”
