According to a press release from ShiftMed, the platform, which links healthcare providers with certified nurses, wants to increase its national presence in the healthcare industry.

According to ShiftMed CEO Todd Walrath, “Healthcare providers continue to struggle with access to credentialed personnel as patient requirements and volume continue to climb.” ShiftMed is well-positioned to offer health systems a W-2 solution that complies with regulations and makes use of nearby and part-time resources.

Instead of focusing on travel staffing, ShiftMed focuses on offering access to local employees. It also has an automated platform for workforce management that enables workforce optimization. According to the press release, these services help healthcare providers lower their operating costs by 30% to 40%.

According to CEO and Founder of Clipboard Health Wei Deng, nurses have long desired more control over their shifts as well as scheduling and payment flexibility.

They, along with other healthcare professionals, desire sufficient employment to support themselves on a full-time basis, but “they don’t necessarily want somebody telling them what hours to work,” according to Deng at the time.

According to Julie Dunphy, chief financial officer of Gale Healthcare Solutions, there is also a persistent shortage of nurses and other healthcare professionals, which is leaving clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes understaffed.
