Twitter is in a plan to make its direct messaging service more useful and for the same has acquired Quill. The company has acquired the company at an undisclosed amount. General Manager of the company Nick Caldwell has described Quill as a deliberate way to communicate. With Quill’s tech under the enterprises umbrella, it can make message service better and can compete with Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and more.
Quill will shut down its but their team will join Twitter and people who want to export their team messages history will be available until 1 PM PT on December 11 2021 where they will be turning off their servers and deleting all their data. Rest it will refund all the active teams the amount of subscription paid towards the app.
Quill stated in a blog that they had started the messaging app with keeping a goal in mind of improving the quality of human communication. With Twitter, they will continue to pursue their goal and will make online communication more thoughtful and effective.
As per sources, the company could implement some new messaging channels for keeping in touch with large communities of users. Also, Twitter has a premium paid subscription tier called Twitter Blue, and the platform could offer messaging features for users with a high number of followers.
This is the first big move since Twitter announced a new CEO Parag Agarwal last week. Recently Jack Dorsey stepped down as the CEO. Parag Agarwal appeared in public for the first time. He was present at the Barclays technology conference where he said that the company is restructuring and reorganizing. He also said that the company was operating in a functional structure where they had a single engineering organization, a single design research organization, and product teams that were attached to them.
